Once his eyes had adjusted to the darkness he looked around to find himself in a hospital room, on a bed, his arm connected to various tubes, and the woman sat beside him. She explained how he had passed out, then began to spasm. That he was in a hospital now and would get better, he didn't trust her.
But the angels had gone, his safety had disappeared. He felt alone. Trying to call out to his saviours only made him ache, not knowing what to do he surrendered himself to the bed. Engulfed in its cardboard wrappers he drifted through consciousness, hearing distant murmurs and glimpsing lucid landscapes, like no other he had seen. Then they came for him and his life stopped.
